The cat is the villain: our first pet-villain comic
Every Hero & Ink comic has a villain. Usually it is a rival, a storm, a broken machine, or a version of the hero's own doubt. In The Small Signal, the villain is a cat.
Sarah notices what nobody else does - the flicker in a streetlight, the neighbor who stopped waving, the one sock that never comes back from the laundry. Biscuit, her cat, has been collecting those small missing things under the bed for years. The book follows the two of them across San Francisco at dusk, from the balcony to the Golden Gate, until the hoard is found and the two of them come to an arrangement.
Why a cat
Pet owners have asked for this since the first week. A dog had already starred beside its owner in The Tail of Two Heroes. A cat needed a different job. Cats do not rescue anyone. They plot. So Biscuit plots.
The cat on the page is drawn from Biscuit's real photos, coat and markings included, the same way every hero's face is drawn from theirs.
